PROJECT 5K - A Skid Row Mission

What is Skid Row?

Skid Row, termed the nation's homeless capital, contains one of the largest populations of homeless persons in the United States. It is also a 50-square-block area in the heart of Downtown, Los Angeles where thousands of men, women, and children call home.

It is estimated that on any given night, there are anywhere between 10,000 to 50,000 homeless Americans living on Skid Row of which approximately 7,000 are said to be veterans. Consequently, the number of homeless Americans has increased significantly due to our current economic climate.  Personal belongings are kept in shopping carts, luggage, and bags and many of the transients who do not sleep in homeless shelters or missions, reside on the streets, sidewalks, alleys, and parks in makeshift tents.

Without the opportunity to actually meet and converse with the angels on Skid Row, it can seem plausible to form sundry preconceptions; however, one of the most important thing to know and remember about the people on Skid Row is the magnitude of hope, faith and love these angels endure.
